Ten years ago today Ferenc Puskás the greatest player in Hungarian and Kispest history passed away. The best known Hungarian who is from Kispest started out playing soccer in Kispest AC, followed by its successor, Bp. Honvéd.
By the time he reached 18 years of age in 1945, he was a member of the Hungarian national team. Until 1956 he played in 84 international matches, scoring 83 goals.
He was a member of the Olympic Champion Hungarian National Team in 1952, as well as being the captain of the 1954 squad, which won the silver medal at the 1954 World Cup.
With Honvéd he won 5 league titles and four scoring titles.
He was extremely quick footed, had unbelievable ball handling, brilliant passing and shooting skills, his fakes were very creative and unorthodox.
Today, on the 10th anniversary of his death, two commemorations were held. The City Council and Bp. Honvéd honoured him at the local elementary school named after him. Then at 7 o’clock this evening at the Kispest Football House his fans will hold a commemorative service for him and the recently deceased member of Kispest’s golden team, László Rákóczi.
